With the warm weather we have enjoyed for the past few days it is hard to believe that it is officially the month of November.
The Sugarcreek Business Association is gearing up for our annual celebration of of the holiday season known simply as Christmas in the Village. We invite everyone to join us in Downtown Sugarcreek on the steps of Sweet Basil beginning at 5:15 p.m.
Don’t forget to warm up at the soup supper held from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Sugarcreek First Mennonite Church located just a few hundred feet from the square of downtown Sugarcreek. Cost is by donation!
After the community choir has sung, the program to honor an unsung hero of Sugarcreek will begin with gusto. A message of the season will be delivered by Pastor Ellen Mills of the Shanesville Lutheran Church. Children from the Garaway Local School District will throw the switch on lights in the downtown area and the artists of the pears on Sugarcreek’s Partridge Tree will be honored.
After 6 p.m., there will be treats at various stores, goodies for the kids at the Sugarcreek Library and plenty of bargains. Don’t forget to sign up to win Sugarcreek’s Snowman Shopping Spree at participating businesses!

Happy Thanksgiving to all and we hope to see you at Christmas in the Village.

If this is your first visit to The Little Switzerland of Ohio, we welcome you. If you are returning visitor, welcome back!
At times the traffic may back up a bit and there are so many choices for things to do and places to experience, but we know you will find Sugarcreek has a charm all its own.
Locals and visitors alike will want to help the Sugarcreek Fire Department celebrate its 125th year at its Open House set for Sunday, October 10. There will be tours of the Sugarcreek Fire Department as well as a history of the group. Refreshments will be served.
Plans are taking shape for Christmas in the Village slated for Black Friday, November 26 and Saturday, November 27. Make plans now to attend.
Until next month, take care and enjoy fall beauty in Sugarcreek.
I can’t believe it is here already. It seems like the Fabulous 50s Fling was just a couple weeks ago. This summer has flown by.

Swiss Festival time is here. There is always something for everyone and lots of people in town to keep all of us busy. Hope to see you all there.
The 58th annual Ohio Swiss Festival is set for September 29 – October 2. There will lots to see, do, touch, taste and hear. We have not one, but two parades that weekend and both are sure to be packed with plenty of Kodak moments – so don’t forget your camera!
The Fabulous Fall Sugarcreek Community Garage Sales are always a great way to clean out things you have accumulated over the summer – so plan now to take part. And for those of you who are out of town guests – plan your trip to Sugarcreek for October 15 and 16 for this year’s sales! Maps will be available at the Alpine Hills Museum from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days.
Until next time – enjoy the many shades of fall.

Dear Members,

I cannot believe August is here already. The summer is flying by and school will be starting soon. That means the Swiss Festival is just around the corner.
We have a few other events to highlight before the festival including the 34th Annual Sugarcreek Business Association Auction and the Golf Outing.
The auction will be held on Friday, August 13 at the pavilion behind the Sugarcreek Fire Department. There are a lot of great items on the block, so plan to join us for a great evening. This event also serves as our main fundraiser, so please help out where you can.
The annual golf outing is always a very fun activity. It is good to see everyone in a more casual setting. This year we will hit the course on September 10. Get your team together and plan for a great day. Sponsorships are also a great way to get involved as well as door prizes. If golf is not your thing, then plan on attending just for the steak dinner. We have one of the best chefs around to cook the steaks. Hope to see you there.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and we will see you on Wednesday at the weekly meeting.

Dear Members,

Summer is definitely here. One sure sign is that our lunch meeting attendance is very low. I know we are all a lot busier this time of year, but please try to make an effort to join us each Wednesday for good food, fun prizes and the opportunity to learn what is going on behind the scenes of Sugarcreek.
Another 50s Fling is in the books. The Cruise-In was a great success this year with over 200 cars. The show itself on Saturday was not as well attended as we would have liked due to threatening weather. Those who did come out – had a great time. Please start planning now for how your business can help at next year’s event as it will be revamped to better serve our guests.
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the most relaxing of our summer events – the Dominic Greco Band concert set for Saturday, July 24 behind the Sugarcreek Fire Department at 7 p.m. There will be a haystack dinner held at the Sugarcreek United Methodist Church beginning at 4 p.m. There is always plenty of food and time to socialize there.
We will close out the summer with the SBA Auction on August 13. (Please note the date change.) Be sure to get your donation ready for when the solicitors call. This is also a great time to get your Christmas shopping started.
Plans are being made to bring the World’s Largest Cuckoo Clock to Sugarcreek in the very near future. If you are interested in being involved in this adventure, there will be many opportunities to get involved.
Plan to join us at a meeting soon and enjoy your summer.

Summer is here! A few days ago I was sitting on my deck, relaxing after work and I saw fireflies! Yet another sign that summer is here is the Fabulous 50s Fling. I cannot believe it it here already. A lot of work and planning has gone into this event so be sure to come out for the cool cars, great food and music. There is still time to volunteer to work any of the tents or food lines that are manned throughout the day as well as Friday night.
The Dominic Greco Band will be in Sugarcreek again this summer. They will be performing behind the Fire Station on July 24. The Sugarcreek United Methodist Church will be serving up their annual haystack dinner beforehand. This is always a great combination of food and fun.
The summer is capped off with the Annual SBA Auction set for August 20. Start planning now for what you would like to donate and start saving your spare change so you can start your Christmas shopping early. There are some really exciting items already on the block. There will also be an opportunity for area businesses to draw in the crowd from the auction all weekend with special sales and discounts for those who have bidder numbers from the sale. More details on this will be forthcoming.
Don’t forget to let us know if your business is celebrating a landmark or something exciting. You may be featured on our Web site.
Have a great summer and we will see you at the 50s Fling.

Dear Members,

Wow! Can you believe May is here? The year seems to be flying by. Our first big event of the year has been completed. Celebrate Sugarcreek was a wonderful evening of fellowship and good food. It was really exciting to hear the honorees express their gratitude and tell stories of days gone by. I hope more of you take the opportunity to attend this incredible event next year.

The Vintage Garden Tractor Show is in the final stages of planning. The May 8 event continues to grow and get better each year. There are things to do for all age groups so bring the family out for a good time.

The Sugarcreek Community Garage Sales are also on the schedule for May 7 and 8. Many of our residents sell their treasurers during that weekend. Businesses can also participate if they would like to clean out some inventory. In fact, several downtown businesses will be holding sidewalk sales throughout the event. There will certainly be lots of people looking for a treasure and good deal as they canvas the streets.

Our biggest summer event is celebrating 20 years this year. Plan now to join us for the Fabulous 50s Fling Cruise-in on June 11 and the main event on June 12. Registrations are coming in from as far away as Alabama. That means there are sure to be some incredible rides and wheels at this year’s event. While the event is very exciting and draws a crowd to our community, we need help to make it a reality. This year, instead of asking for pie sponsorships and trophy sponsorships, the committee is looking for businesses to sign on to be Gold, Silver or Bronze sponsors at a specific dollar amount ranging from $25 to $75. Be sure to get these in by May 10.

We are planning an executive board meeting at 8:30 a.m. on May 5, immediately after the breakfast meeting. On May 12, we would like to meet with the chairperson of each committee . That meeting will be held directly after the lunch meeting at 1 p.m.

Circle of Friends will be giving a presentation at our meeting on May 12. Please show your support and attend this meeting.

If you know of someone who would be of interest to the group as a speaker, please let me know so we can set it up.

I also have some openings for the weekly giveaways. Thank you to all who have participated thus far.

I hope to see you at a meeting soon.

Dear Members,
Spring has sprung! The flowers are blooming. Trees are budding and the grass is growing. Traffic is starting to increase in our community too and soon, we will start being a little busier.
The “Celebrate Sugarcreek” dinner and awards ceremony is fast approaching. Tickets are on sale now and are available from the Marketing and Communications Committee as well as several locations throughout Sugarcreek. April 24 will be here before you know it, so get your tickets now and plan for a great evening of honoring those people who work hard to make Sugarcreek special.
The nice weather also brings with it thoughts of garage sales. Our community-wide sales are slated for May 7 and 8. Highlighting that same weekend is the Vintage Garden Tractor Show. There will be something for everyone that weekend. From what I hear there will be a chicken barbecue that weekend to benefit the Alpine Hills Historical Museum as well.
Plans are being finalized for the 20th annual Fabulous 50s Fling. New this year is a sponsorship program instead of donating for pies and trophies. There are three levels of sponsorship available to fit most any budget. The more you stend, the farther your advertising dollars will go for you. There will be more details about the sponsorship opportunities in an attachment to this newsletter from Jim Harrison and the 50s Committee.
We have Shasta Mast from the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce coming to speak with us in April as well as Dee Grossman from the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Plan to join us for lots of great information, food and prizes.
Until next month,
Cheryll Shireman

Dear Members,

Thank goodness that February was only 28 days. It has been a very snowy month. I am really looking forward to seeing green grass and hearing the birds sing. March is such a wonderful time of the year.
Plan now to attend the “Celebrate Sugarcreek” dinner and awards ceremony on April 24. Tickets are on sale now. They can be purchased from any member of the Marketing Committee Member as well as at area businesses including The Budget, Village Drug, The Gospel Shop, Jim’s Sunoco and Beachy’s Country Chalet.

During the month of March, we will be having two meetings that will feature guest speakers. On March 10, we will have an interesting presentation from Scott Robinson and Allison Kerns from United Way of Tuscarawas County. On March 24, a representative of Hospice of Tuscarawas County will be present to update our group on their progress. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for those lunch meetings that begin at noon at Dutch Valley in the basement. The food is sure to be good and the networking opportunities are abundant.
You never know, you might win a free lunch or one of the many great prizes that have been donated by local businesses. There are some really spectacular prizes coming up for our special drawings – so why not come out and see just how lucky you are.

I would like to take a moment to welcome Marsha Walker to the Board of Directors for the Sugarcreek Business Association. She has graciously stepped up to tackle the position of Vice President. As a branch manager for First Federal Community Bank that serves both Sugarcreek and Berlin, she is very active in our community. If you haven’t met her, please come to a meeting and introduce yourself.

Have a great month.

Dear Members,

I can’t believe it is already February. Spring is just around the corner and lots of exciting things will be happening in the months to come. Our first big event of the year is “Celebrate Sugarcreek” on April 24 at Sweet Basil. Please be sure to submit your nominations for the awards by Feb. 20. This is a great opportunity to recognize those who do so much for our community. Tickets are available from any officer, marketing committee member or several locations around town.

The weekend of May 7-8 is looking to bring a lot of people into town. This is the time for the Community Garage Sales. Bargains can be found all over town. Then, on Saturday, May 8, bring the family to the pavilion area for the Vintage Garden Tractor Show. I’m sure there will be something for everyone.

Plans are being finalized for our biggest event, the Fabulous 50’s Fling, the weekend of June11-12. This year we are celebrating 20 years. We always need extra volunteers for this event, so clear your calendar now and make plans to join us. For more information you can log on to the newly renovated Web site at www.fab50sfling.com.

We will be having two special guests join us in February for our weekly meetings at Dutch Valley. Jeremy Kauffman from Walnut Hills will be doing a presentation about CROFT Values on Feb. 10 and Milo Miller will be with us on Feb. 24 to give us information about the Sugarcreek Rotary. Please mark your calendars and show your support at these meetings.

If you would like to get more involved in the going ons of the SBA, we have a great opportunity for you. We are looking to fill the position of Vice-president. If you are interested or know someone who would be great for the position, please contact myself, Bev Keller, Keith Rathbun, or Doug Frutschy .

The extra drawings we are doing after meeting are going very well. I still have some dates open. If you would like to donate something for these drawings, please let me know. I hope to see you at a meeting soon.

Sincerely,
